Heritage Corner: In Collaboration with Department of School Education Haryana

July 28, 2021

The Department of Archaeology & Museums, Haryana has heritage collection across the State in the form of monuments, archaeological & historical sites, museums, and artefacts which are stored or either displayed. Keeping an aim of mutual benefit for school students, teachers and Department, a Heritage Corner Module has been created that can be implemented to enhance heritage sensitivity and awareness among school children.

The most effective way of making school students getting involved and interested with the exhibits at a museum/heritage site in their own State and surrounding is to allow them to engage with them. Thus, this initiative will create fresh avenues of knowledge in this regard.

An Orientation cum Demonstration workshop was conducted at Sarthak Govt. Model Integrated Sr. Secondary School, Sector 12 A, Panchkula, on 22nd July 2021 to make this legacy go forward through schools.

The Heritage Corner Kit (sample box) was displayed at the venue along with Introduction and Map about Haryana. A PowerPoint presentation briefing about the components of the module, its benefits, application in history teaching and further brief about upcoming (proposed) Chapter on Heritage of Haryana, was done.

This Heritage Corner Module is an all time teaching-learning aid that comprise of Replicas of archaeological material, booklets for information and suggested activities, with other printed (maps) and tactile material that can be easily displayed at a Corner in any school in Haryana and promote the concept of Haryana’s rich heritage at school level.

Department of Archaeology and Museums, Haryana in collaboration with Directorate of Education aims to establish the concept of these Heritage Corners across the State. Schools will be benefitted by the information and can themselves get motivated to hold special exhibitions or creating such Heritage corner within their institutions.

The Interaction with teachers led to gathering information about the different needs and provisions different schools require as per the space and usage perspectives.
